The Federation is involved in the development of standards for teaching in the profession. These Professional Standards for Accomplished Teaching of Languages and Cultures have been the focus of two major projects.
The Mentoring and Reflecting: Languages Educators and Professional Standards (MoRe LEAPS) project aims to develop accomplished lead teachers of Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, and Korean in each state and territory by increasing their knowledge and improving their classroom practices to improve student learning, and by building their capacity for mentoring and reflective practice in teaching and learning languages. This project involves expanding the initial standards to include those for lead teachers of languages and cultures. Professional Standards Project – Languages was a nationally coordinated professional learning program for languages teachers, to improve the quality of languages teaching and thereby improve the learning outcomes of students. It is based on the use of the Professional standards for accomplished teaching of languages and cultures (‘the Standards’) as a framework.
