The Federation has received a response to our correspondence to ACARA concerning the delay in the release of the Shape of the Australian Curruiculum: Languages.

Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages out now!

ACARA has released the Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages. You can read all about it and obtain a copy from the ACARA website.

On the same page you can access the Consultation Report that was compiled following feedback on the draft edition of the paper.

Further communication to ACARA

The Executive has written a further letter to ACARA enquiring about the reason behind the delay in the release of the Shaping Paper: Languages.

Further to our letter of 7 October 2011, we note that the ACARA website now indicates that the Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages is due for publication in November. As stated in our previous communication, there is significant countrywide support for the development of the Australian Curriculum: Languages and, as the peak body for languages educators in Australia, we would like to express our concern regarding the delays in its development.

Letter to ACARA

The AFMLTA has written to the Australian Curriculum and Assessment Reporting Authority regarding the current state of the Shape Paper for Australian Curriculum: Languages.

As noted on ACARA’s website, the publication of the revised Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages was due to occur in September 2011. To our knowledge this has not happened.

Media Release – White Paper on Australia in the Asian Century

The AFMLTA has put out a media release concerning the federal government’s recent announcement of a White Paper on Australia in the Asian Century.

AFMLTA President, Sherryl Saunders, believes the impetus behind Australia confidently seeking to build a bright future for all Australians in which there is recognition of our place in the Asian region provides a perfect opportunity to review current activity in education generally and languages education in particular.
